Mayor Appoints New PARC Director, Davidson Joins Office of Community Safety & Empowerment

Posted: 05/12/2023
PARC logoKnoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon has appointed Jered Croom to serve as Executive Director of the City’s Police Advisory & Review Committee (PARC).

“Jered has nearly 15 years of serving the people of Knoxville in a variety of roles, including two terms as a PARC committee member,” Mayor Kincannon said. “His background in criminal justice and social work makes him a trusted community leader who will continue to fight for equity and fairness.”

Croom’s appointment comes as current Director Tiffany Davidson transitions to be the City’s new Deputy Director of Community Safety and Empowerment.

“Tiffany is a huge asset to the City,” said Mayor Kincannon. “She is a proven relationship builder, problem solver, and compassionate leader. She will be a great addition to the Office of Community Safety & Empowerment as we look to grow and strengthen this department.”

Jered CroomCroom and Davidson are expected to start their respective new roles in early June.

“I have spent a large part of my career focusing on conflict resolution and advocating for the people of our city,” Croom said. “I am grateful to Mayor Kincannon for this opportunity to continue the important work of PARC, and I look forward to making sure we continue to evolve with the needs of our city.”

“While I will miss the impactful work of PARC,” Davidson said, “I know that Jered is the perfect person to lead the committee and continue to strengthen relationships between the community and the police department. At the same time, I am excited to join LaKenya Middlebrook as we expand the reach of the Office of Community Safety and Empowerment.”

PARC was created in 1998 to provide an independent review of police activity and make recommendations to the Chief of Police. It comprises seven volunteers served by a full-time executive director hired by the Mayor.

Croom worked for Volunteer Ministry Center for seven years before joining Positively Living in 2011. He has a bachelor's degree in psychology of criminal behavior and a master’s degree in social work. Croom will serve as PARC’s sixth Executive Director.
