CORRIDOR C - FOURTH CREEK GREENWAY

Corridor Route Description

The Corridor C greenway corridor is approximately 2.08 miles in length and links the existing Weisgarber Greenway to the Bearden Greenway at Bearden Elementary School and then continues on to connect with the Lakeshore Greenway. The corridor extends as an existing 10-foot wide sidepath along Old Weisgarber Road for approximately 0.20 mi. The corridor then follows Fourth Creek for approximately 0.30 mi. as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail though the Brookview Town Center development. The trail corridor leaves the Brookview Town Center, crosses Northshore Drive and then proceeds along Bearden Road as an off-street greenway trail then along Toole Road as an 8-foot wide neighborhood connector with on-street bicycle facilities for approximately 0.26 mi. The corridor leaves the road right-of-way and proceeds through the grounds of Bearden Elementary School as an off-street 10-foot wide greenway trail for approximately 0.27 mi. The corridor crosses Kingston Pike at the existing traffic signal and proceeds along the south side of Kingston Pike as a 10' wide sidepath for a distance of some 260 feet. The corridor turns off Kingston Pike and proceeds along Gore Road approximately 0.19 mi. as a 10-foot wide sidepath. At Walden the corridor turns in a westerly direction and proceeds along the south side of Walden approximately 0.13 mi. as a 10-foot wide sidepath. At the location where Walden crosses the unnamed tributary to Fourth Creek, the corridor departs the roadway and proceeds as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail along the waterway for approximately 500 feet. At the point where Fourth Creek intersects with Northshore Drive the corridor turns and proceeds along the east side of Northshore Drive as a 10-foot wide sidepath to the intersection with Lyons View Pike, a distance of some 0.40 mi.. The corridor turns and proceeds as a 10-foot wide sidepath along the north side of Lyons View Pike to the entrance to Lakeshore Park, a distance of approximately 0.19 mi.. A "Hawk" pedestrian signal is proposed at the intersection of Lyons View Pike and the Lakeshore Park entrance drive. In the event that improvements are proposed to the Lyons View Pike - Northshore Drive intersection at some future time, consideration should be given to making a greenway connection across Lyons View to the Lakeshore Greenway.

Limited demolition in this corridor will include curb, curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk and asphalt removal at selected locations along with some storm drainage demolition and replacement. One box culvert extension is planned where Gore crosses the unnamed tributary of Fourth Creek. The typical trail cross section shall be 2” asphalt over 6” base stone. A cantilevered deck overlook is proposed north of the Brookview Town Center parking garage overlooking Fourth Creek. Rock removal is required for one section of the trail along Northshore Drive to make space for the greenway trail. Curb ramps and greenway trail crosswalk pavement markings are provided at all street crossings. Retaining walls are anticipated in this corridor in the northeast corner of the Brookview Town Center development as well as along Toole Drive. Roadway relocation is planned in the vicinity of the Walden/Agnes intersection. Curb and gutter as well as storm drainage improvements will be constructed at various locations.

Greenway Connectivity

When Corridor C is connected with Corridors B and A the resulting continuous greenway trail system will total over 40 miles of interconnected greenways. Facilities connected along these greenway trails include a number of parks, schools, churches and a YMCA.
