Knoxville Bicycle Facilities Plan Update

The City of Knoxville is updating its
Bicycle Facilities Plan to create a safer, more connected, and more accessible biking network for everyone, whether you're commuting, running errands, or riding for fun.
Originally developed in
2015, the plan laid the foundation for making Knoxville a bike-friendly city. This update, funded through the
Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will bring the plan up to date and align it with the City's
Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities on City-controlled roadways by
2040.
Why This Matters
Knoxville recognizes biking as a vital part of a healthy and diverse transportation system. Safe and comfortable bicycle facilities:
• Encourage
active lifestyles
• Improve
street safety
• Support
local businesses
• Provide more
transportation choices for people of all ages and abilities
For biking to be a real option, we need facilities that are
safe, connected, and low-stress and that’s exactly what this update aims to deliver.
What the Plan Will Do
The updated Bicycle Facilities Plan will:
• Identify gaps in the current network
• Focus on connectivity and safety
• Recommend infrastructure improvements that support both recreation and transportation
By developing a hierarchy of bicycle facilities, Knoxville will better serve all riders, from beginners to experienced cyclists.
