On Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 - with ESPN's "College GameDay" crew arriving in town for Saturday's Vols-Dawgs showdown - the Henley Bridge debuted its all-time orange-iest best.

The 180 Henley Bridge deck lights were subtly orange and white, as usual. But new lights cannon-blasted thousands of watts of in-your-face orange color onto the undercarriage of the bridge.

It was maybe the orange-iest expression ever of the love of being in Knoxville on a football Saturday, surrounded by rollicking fans and embracing rich, fun, generational family traditions.

In fact, the dramatic new lights maybe will create some new traditions. Imagine the great selfies from Volunteer Landing!

Installing the lights required some gritty persistence by the Engineering Department's Signal Shop. This is the team that over two weeks donned safety harnesses and climbed from boats onto bridge ladders to replace the old fixtures, change out fuses and pull out what seemed like miles of old wiring.
