Let's Move! Event Aims to Get Kids Active, Healthy April 30, 2014 - The third annual Knoxville Let's Move! Event will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Victor Ashe Park, located 4901 Bradshaw Road. The event is free to the public and will feature a greenway of activities aimed at getting youth eating healthier and moving more outside.

Children and their families will use an adventure map to guide them along a trail of activities which will include: water sports, recipe demonstrations, seed planting, sports and games. At the event, families will use Walk with Walgreens pedometers to measure the number of steps taken that day, and students will lead a Let's Move! Flash Mob at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Door prizes will be given throughout the day and Home Depot will hold a grand prize drawing for a new grill.

"The Let's Move! Event continues to grow with each passing year to include more planning partners, activity stations, volunteers and resources to support healthy families in our community," said Aneisa McDonald, Knox County Schools Coordinated School Health. "I am amazed at the community cooperation that has resulted through the development of this event and the growth of additional partnerships that lasts throughout the year."

The local Let's Move! Event is part of First Lady Michelle Obama's national campaign to fight childhood obesity. In 2013, the City of Knoxville and Knox County received national recognition for their collaborative efforts to improve student health. The National League of Cities ranked both municipalities first in the nation for completion of key health and wellness goals for "Let's Move! Cities, Towns and Counties."
