The Market Square Farmers’ Market needs your vote in an online contest that carries a $5,000 prize for the winner. The twice-weekly market in downtown Knoxville is currently barely holding fourth in the “Love Your Farmers Market” contest hosted by Care2.com a website that support green living among other causes. Supporters of various markets can go to the websites and vote for their favorite market.
According to Care2.com, the Flint Farmers’ Market in Michigan is leading the contest with 5,394 votes while the Carrboro Farmers’ Market in North Carolina is running second with 3,867 supporters. Fernandine Farmers Market in Florida is holding third at 3,180 votes. The Market Square Farmers’ Market has 2,895 votes for fourth. Midtown Farmers' Market in Minnesota is running close at fifth with 2,764 votes.
At least 100 markets have received votes in the contest which began in June and runs through September 17. In addition to the grand prize there are additional cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and 1,000 for markets finishing behind the overall winner. Participants in the online competition must agree to abide by the contest rules and they can only register to vote once.
