Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in Knoxville

Posted: 05/12/2009
Mayor Bill Haslam presented Janet Glass with a proclamation Tuesday proclaiming May 12, as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in Knoxville.

The event is also being observed around the country.

Glass is a group leader for Focus on Fibromyalgia, a local support group for people who have the disease and their families. Focus on Fibromyalgia meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in Room 222 of the Family Life Center at Valley Grove Baptist Church.

The group will mark its first anniversary at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday evening, May 12.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain affecting different parts of the body, fatigue and sleep difficulties among other symptoms. It affects several million people in the United States and millions of others around the world.

More information about the disease and treatment is available at www.fmaware.org, the website of the National Fibromyalgia Association.
