Big day for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley! It's exciting to break ground for new state-of-the-art multipurpose facility on Caswell Avenue, with an aquatic center, a teen center, a technology center, a medical clinic and two gymnasiums.
The "Our Kids, Our Future" campaign raised more than $14 million. Congratulations to a great group of staff, volunteers, families and donors. These are the dedicated, caring people who make it a point to notice what a child might be missing, and then help make sure that boy or girl gets what's needed to be able to succeed.
Volunteers with the Boys & Girls Clubs say they'll soon be able to serve more kids, more often, in a more meaningful way. The clubs offer quality, effective programming, and the City of Knoxville last year was pleased to give a $250,000 capital grant to the Boys and Girls Clubs.
A highlight of Wednesday's ground-breaking was hearing from Shakayla Blair, a fifth-grader at Inskip Elementary who's been a member of the Boys and Girls Clubs for years. Shakayla shared some of her favorite memories.
