A section of the Northeast corner of Market Square will be fenced off for at least several weeks while the building façade at 36 Market Square is repaired by its owner.
The building, located next to Wall Street, is currently empty. Installation of the eight-foot-high fence could begin as early as Friday morning.
The fence will travel from both edges of 36 Market Square out to within a few feet of the Market Square stage and will also go down part of the sidewalk on Wall Street.
The architects working on the project, Smee & Busby Architects, informed city officials about the problem and the proposed corrective action - which essentially involves taking down the front of 36 Market Square and rebuilding it.
"The owner has taken responsive action to insure the public's safety," said Tom Reynolds, the city's Building, Zoning, & Plans Review Chief.
