Looking for a way to get to know your neighbors and strengthen community pride? Want to plan a block party but don’t have the resources? The City’s Office of Community Safety and Empowerment can help!
Starting Sept. 8, 2025, residents are invited to apply for funding to support their community events from the new On My Block Community Investment program. Applications and additional information are posted at
KnoxvilleTN.gov/OnMyBlock. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through March 9, 2026.
The program’s goal is to empower Knoxville residents to build community, promote connection, and cultivate trusting relationships through neighborhood-led events in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by violence.
“Strengthening relationships between neighbors is a vital part of reducing community violence,” said Star Starks, Partnerships & Programs Coordinator for the City’s Office of Community Safety & Empowerment. “Supporting fun, neighbor-led events that bring community members together can help build those bonds of trust.”
“The On My Block initiative represents a meaningful step toward reducing isolation, fostering trust, and interrupting cycles of violence – all of which makes neighborhoods safe for everyone,” said Mayor Indya Kincannon.
Who can apply? Residents, neighborhood associations, community groups, non-profits, churches, and formal/informal resident-led groups – all within the Knoxville city limits. Applicants without tax-exempt status may partner with a fiscal sponsor of their choosing or request help to identify one.
To qualify, events must promote community connection and be free and open to the public. Examples include cookouts, community celebrations, resource fairs and neighborhood showcases. Priority will be given to applicants whose events are located in communities and neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by violence.
Applicants may request up to $5,000 to cover eligible event expenses including food and non-alcoholic beverages, paper goods and supplies, door prizes and giveaways, family-friendly activities and entertainment.
