Denzel Grant is a community advocate, nonprofit leader, father, and combat veteran who represents District 6 on Knoxville City Council. Born and raised in Austin Homes in East Knoxville, Grant’s lived experience has shaped his commitment to equity, safety, and opportunity for families across the city. Growing up, he witnessed first-hand both the challenges and the resilience that define many Knoxville neighborhoods. 

Grant is the founder and former director of Turn Up Knox, a community-based violence prevention initiative focused on outreach, conflict mediation, youth engagement, and strengthening families. Under his leadership, the program helped with historic reduction in gun violence, expanded partnerships, supported high-risk youth, and worked directly with individuals most impacted by violence to prevent retaliation and promote healing.

A United States Army combat veteran, Grant draws upon military discipline, teamwork, and mission-focused leadership in his approach to public service. His priorities on Council include increasing access to homeownership, supporting Small Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, improving accountability in city spending, expanding workforce and youth development opportunities, and ensuring that historically undervalued neighborhoods receive fair investment.

Grant is a proud father, which continues to ground his purpose and fuel his drive to build a safer, more stable future for the next generation. Known for his hands-on leadership style, he believes that policy should be informed by the real experiences of residents and that meaningful progress comes when government, community, and local organizations work together.

Outside of Council, Grant continues his work in mentorship, community engagement, and advocacy. He remains committed to ensuring that growth in Knoxville includes everyone and that opportunity reaches families in every neighborhood — from East Knoxville to the city as a whole! 

Denzel Grant was elected to represent the 6th District on Knoxville City Council on November 4, 2025.
