The City of Knoxville Office of Community Safety and Empowerment will host a Youth Violence Prevention Week kick-off party on Sunday, April 27, 2025, 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Emerald Youth Haslam-Sansom Ministry Complex, 1740 Texas Avenue.
This family-friendly resource fair is free and open to residents of all ages. It begins a week of nationwide and local events designed to educate residents on the ways everyone can make efforts to reduce youth violence and its impact.
“We’re connecting young people with summer opportunities – jobs, internships, camps and workshops,” said says Star Starks, Partnerships and Programs Coordinator. “Connected youth are engaged and set up for success in school and life.”
The event includes food, music, activities and area resource providers, including City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation, Renounce Denounce, Drums Up Guns Down, Be SMART for Kids Program, Knoxville Utilities Board Teenworks and more.
During National Youth Violence Prevention Week, April 28-May 3, groups that received grant funding from the City will host activities and workshops related to youth engagement and violence prevention:
•
Renounce Denounce will host community violence prevention events with free food, games and music at Five Points, Montgomery Village and the Regal Teen Center.
•
Phyllis Wheatley YWCA will provide themed programs to its afterschool participants, including an art collaboration with Knoxville Community Media.
•
The Edge Foundation will host Kickball with Curt and Friends on Saturday, May 3.
