Knoxville Community Band Partners for “Music for Seniors” Concert

Posted: 10/03/2019
The Knoxville Community Band’s next performance is scheduled for this Sunday, October 6, at the Tennessee Amphitheatre at World’s Fair Park in Knoxville. The concert begins at 3:00 p.m.

The band’s ten selections span genres, from the Broadway stage to the silver screen to the roots of American music. And all for free!

The Knoxville Community Band will perform a medley of songs from the Broadway hits including “The Producers,” “Wicked” and “The Lion King.” Featured works also include Karl King’s spirited “Circus Bee March,” ragtime precursor “After the Cakewalk” and a medley of Glenn Miller favorites.

For the first time, Knoxville Community Band is partnering with Nashville-based Music for Seniors. The group connects local musicians with older adults using live music programming to entertain and enrich their lives. Music for Seniors was established twelve years ago and recently expanded its work into East Tennessee.

The Knoxville Community Band is sponsored by the Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department. It gives adult musicians the opportunity to perform in various concerts, including a summer series and other festivals and City events throughout the year.

The band’s next performance will be in early December in Knoxville.

Knoxville Community Band is directed by Larry Hicks, retired band director of Heritage High School in Maryville.

Mark Boring, also retired from the Blount County school system, is the assistant band
