Now with higher starting pay, KAT holds Job Fair

Posted: 09/26/2022
With recently approved increased wage rates, Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) will be holding a job fair on Thursday, September 29th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday, October 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Knoxville Station Transit Center, 301 Church Avenue.  Positions available include Bus Operators, Trolley Operators, and Maintenance Service team members.  All are full-time positions.

Starting wage rates are $18.00/hour for Bus Operator positions with built in pay raises every year until they reach the top hourly wage of $25.20/hour after just 4 years - which equals $52,000 annually. That does not include potential overtime pay. These full-time positions also include a wide range of benefits such as health, vision, and dental insurance, retirement contributions, life insurance, and paid vacation and sick leave.  Overall compensation equates to about 30% more than the base hourly rate of pay, meaning a top-out total benefit value of around $67,600 (before overtime).

Trolley Operators have a beginning hourly pay of $16.55 while Maintenance Service team members start off at $17.92 with the same benefits package and similar opportunities for wage growth.

“This job fair is a great opportunity for potential employees to come learn about what we do, talk to team members, and apply and interview for these positions,” says Isaac Thorne, Director of Transit.  “Some potential employees may be given offers at the job fair itself.”

In addition to applications and information about job requirements, KAT will have an electric vehicle on site for potential employees to take a close look at their “work space.”  Interviews will be held during the job fairs for those interested in applying.

Potential applicants can either take KAT to the job fair, or if driving, park at the Civic Coliseum Parking Garage on Howard Baker, Jr. Avenue, letting the parking attendant know they are coming to KAT for the job fair.
