The new roundabout where Sevier Avenue, Island Home Avenue and Foggy Bottom Street intersect is starting to take shape. Check out this week's aerial view, courtesy of CDM Smith!
This view is looking south from Foggy Bottom onto a newly constructed permanent section of Sevier Avenue. The existing section of Sevier, at the upper right of this photo, will be removed and converted into green space.
As part of the streetscapes upgrades, the existing telephone poles will be removed when utility lines get relocated below ground.
There's now a 4-way stop at this intersection, which provides project crews with the space they need to continue drainage and concrete work, then construction of a roundabout. The stop signs are less disruptive than lane closures. And remember - they're temporary!
Within the coming year, the new permanent roundabout will be in place. This is a traffic-flow design that allows vehicles to move efficiently and safely through a busy intersection without necessarily having to come to complete stops.
