Update #13: Traffic Shifts on Sevier

Posted: 02/10/2026
Feb. 10, 2026

As the Sevier Avenue Streetscape Project hits the halfway-to-completion mark, look for some significant milestones coming up in the next few months.

Most immediately, utility work on the southern side of Sevier Avenue will require both eastbound and westbound driving lanes to be temporarily shifted northward, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11.

This shift will allow Southern Constructors Inc. crews to complete utility upgrades in what's now the existing eastbound lane, between Island Home Avenue and Davenport Road.

The effect on commuters won't change much: As it is now, traffic will be periodically stopped while a flag person safely directs traffic through the construction zone.

Both lanes should be open and free-flowing when workers are not present.

Crews will be working from east to west on Sevier Avenue for the next several months.

With contractor crews working in tight proximity with businesses and their parking areas, one high priority remains to always keep driveways and entrances open and easily accessible. Thorough coordination and communication will be key.

In other developments along the Sevier Avenue Streetscapes Project corridor:

Whaley Construction crews in the coming weeks will continue to install stormwater drainage infrastructure in the area where the roundabout will be built - the intersection of Sevier, Foggy Bottom Street and Island Home.

Once the underground structures have been installed, the contractor then will bring a portion of the roundabout area up to grade and pave that area.
