Status Update #6: Giving Workers More Space

Posted: 04/28/2025
April 28, 2025

This week, anticipate work to continue on Foggy Bottom Street and Phillips Avenue as Southern Constructor crews install duct banks and infrastructure as part of the Sevier Avenue Streetscapes Project.

In the same area, AT&T soon will be moving its overhead lines so that a pole on the south side of Island Home Boulevard can be removed.

This in turn will allow the Whaley Construction team to lay down temporary asphalt to widen Island Home on the south side, near where it intersects with Sevier Avenue. The widened lane creates more elbow room for workers, as they begin to remove curb and gutter, set a barrier railing, and begin demolition of an old retaining wall.

These are the beginning steps for the eventual construction of a traffic roundabout where Sevier, Island Home and Foggy Bottom now come together.
