Status Update #2: Where Do I Park?

Posted: 01/28/2025
Sevier Ave Corridor ParkingDid you know there are more than 600 public parking spaces (albeit, some closer and more convenient than others) along the Sevier Avenue corridor?

That number of available parking spaces won't be reduced during the two-year construction of the Sevier Avenue Streetscapes Project. The project's private contractors have arranged for separate parking for their work crews.

Cold weather last week hampered the start of work by Whaley Construction crews. But look in the coming weeks for traffic signs to go up, excavation to begin, and the clearing of vegetation between the railroad tracks and Island Home Boulevard to get started.

Utility work by Southern Constructors is expected to start on the east end in February, then on the west end this summer, when there are no classes at nearby South Knoxville Elementary School.

Also in the coming weeks, Foggy Bottom Street will be closed.

So, back to these 600-plus parking spaces - where exactly are they?

The most convenient parking - depending on your destination - is probably the 225 parking spaces by Suttree Landing Park and on-street parking along Waterfront Drive, Langford Avenue, and other streets.

These are always free.

Phillips Avenue is reserved for permit parking by residents.

In addition, on nights and weekends, 25 free spaces can be found at South Knoxville Elementary School.

Further to the west, there are more than 300 public spaces available in the Regal parking garage on weekdays after 6 p.m. and on weekends. Ten spaces line Sevier Avenue near Blount Avenue.

And further to the east, another 50 or so spaces are available on Island Home Avenue beneath the James White Parkway.
