At 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, officials and stakeholders will cut a ceremonial ribbon and officially dedicate a safer and improved Liberty Street.

A $1.5 million City, state and federal investment has enhanced Liberty Street between Sutherland Avenue and Division Street as a multi-modal route – allowing bicyclists, pedestrians, transit riders and motorists to share the road safely.

Major improvements include a new sidewalk on the east side of Liberty Street, bike lane connections, new drainage improvements, and a traffic signal upgrade.

The new sidewalk connects Sutherland Avenue and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology campus, 1100 Liberty St.

The new bike amenities on Liberty Street between Knott Road and Division Street connect the existing neighborhood bike route to Third Creek Greenway with existing bike lanes extending toward Middlebrook Pike.

Southern Constructors Inc. is the construction contractor. Cannon & Cannon provided construction engineering and inspection services. Barge Design Solutions was the project designer.
