See Renderings of Burlington Fire Station

Posted: 06/19/2025
The City’s $13.7 million investment in Burlington will kickstart with a groundbreaking later this year. But in the meantime – check out these renderings showing what the new fire station and streetscapes project will look like!

City staff and the design and construction team met with Burlington residents and business leaders Tuesday evening at C.O.N.N.E.C.T. Ministries, 3615 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., and shared the renderings.

Here are renderings of the new Fire Station No.  6 in Burlington:

And here is what Burlington could look like after the streetscapes project is completed:

This is a rendering of what MLK Avenue could look like in Burlington after the streetscapes project is completed in another 18 months.

The new $8.6 million Burlington Fire Station No. 6 will be built a block away from the 88-year-old station that it's replacing. The new station will have two bays for fire trucks and serve seven firefighters. Station No. 6 firefighters respond to about 1,600 calls for emergency service each year.

Meanwhile, the $5.1 million Burlington Streetscapes Project will replace the crumbling old sidewalks on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Kirkwood and Shelby streets (and along Prosser Road from MLK to Holston Drive) with wide, smooth, ADA-compliant and tree-lined sidewalks.

The streetscapes project also includes new traffic signals, signage, streetlights and on-street parking, with overhead utility lines buried or relocated.

Decades ago, Burlington boasted a robust and distinctive commercial district. The City’s aim is to encourage private reinvestment in Burlington by adding public amenities – a strategy that has worked well with previous streetscape investments elsewhere across the city.

"The City is priming the pump for redevelopment and collaborative private reinvestment along the entire Magnolia Avenue corridor – and Burlington is a focal point," Mayor Indya Kincannon said.

"We've invested heavily in the initial $9 million Magnolia Avenue streetscape phases, with more upgrades along Magnolia to follow. Next up, I'm looking forward to breaking ground on this state-of-the-art fire station and very important streetscape project in Burlington.

"The private sector is already responding – lots of new residences, businesses, even event venues. This is East Knoxville's time to shine!"

Both the fire station and streetscapes projects are being managed by the Public Building Authority. Johnson & Galyon Construction is serving as construction manager.

Construction on both projects is expected to start this year and be completed by the end of 2026.
