Burlington Fire Hall Groundbreaking is July 31

Posted: 07/17/2025
The City of Knoxville and its partners are excited to celebrate plans for a new fire station and streetscapes in Burlington with a public groundbreaking event at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at 4017 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

The public is invited to attend. Guests include: Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon, Knoxville Fire Chief Stan Sharp and KFD staff, East Knoxville community leaders, Public Building Authority staff, and Johnson & Galyon Construction.

The new Fire Station No. 6—Knoxville’s first new fire station in nearly 30 years—will be built a block from the 88-year-old station that it's replacing.

The $8.6 million station will have two bays for fire trucks, a training mezzanine area, and a kitchen, dining area, day room, patio and more.

Shortly after construction begins on the fire station, work will get underway on the $5.1 million Burlington Streetscapes Project. That project will replace crumbling sidewalks, traffic signals, signage, and streetlights, while also improving on-street parking and relocating overhead utility lines.

The celebration of these two projects, which represent a $13.7 million investment in the Burlington area, will include a short program, renderings of the projects, and light refreshments.
