Summer 2026 - Learn to Swim Lesson Schedule:
Session 1: June 15-25 (Monday through Thursday both weeks)
Session 2:  July 13-23 (Monday through Thursday both weeks)

Cost Per Session
City of Knoxville residents: $60 per child
Non-City residents:  $80 per child
* Multiple child discounts may be available and can be adjusted after registration.  
* Payment is required online to reserve a spot.

The City of Knoxville Parks & Recreation Aquatics team is proud to offer Learn to Swim Lessons for Summer 2026. Our American Red Cross Program focuses on water safety and drowning prevention, and helping swimmers build confidence in and around the water.  Lessons are available for a variety of ages and skill levels.
 
How Our Swimming Lessons Work:  What to Expect

• Swim lessons include eight classes and meet Monday through Thursday over a two-week period.
• On the first day, all swimmers will complete a quick skills assessment and be placed into groups based on their swimming ability.
• Class offerings may vary based on enrollment and staffing.
• If your child has participated in our program before, please bring their achievement book or list the last level completed during registration.
• If your child requires accommodations, please let us know before lessons begin so we can plan accordingly.

EXPLORE OUR SWIM LESSON OPTIONS

Preschool Aquatics
Preschool Aquatics is designed for children ages 3-5. These classes help young swimmers become comfortable in the water while learning basic water safety and swimming skills.

There are three Preschool Aquatics levels:
• Level 1 - No previous experience needed
• Level 2 - Must demonstrate skills from Level 1
• Level 3 - Must demonstrate skills from Level 2

All children will be assessed on the first day and placed in the level that best matches their ability.

Learn-to-Swim
The Learn-to-Swim Program is designed for swimmers age 5 and older. The program teaches water safety and swimming skills through six progressive levels.

• Level 1 - Introduction to the water and basic swimming skills
• Level 2 - Builds comfort and confidence in the water
• Level 3 - Develops basic swimming and stroke skills
• Levels 4-6 - Focus on stroke improvement, endurance, and advanced swimming skills

There are no prerequisites for Level 1.

Swimmers entering Levels 2-6 must demonstrate skills from the previous level.

Adult Swim Lessons
Adult swim lessons are available for participants who want to become more comfortable in the water or improve their swimming ability.

Whether you are learning to swim for the first time or looking to build confidence and skills, our instructors will work with you at your individual level.

Why Swim Lessons Matter
Swimming is an important life skill. Learning to swim helps build confidence, improve water safety, and reduce the risk of drowning. Our goal is to help every participant become safer and more comfortable in and around the water.
