Get Engaged

In the City of Knoxville, we know that local government works best when the community participates.

You Can Make A Difference

From sharing your perspective with your elected officials,
attending project meetings or leveraging city programs
to build community in your neighborhood,
there are many ways to get engaged with your local government.

Ways to Engage with the City

Join a public meeting ✔ Attend a city open house

The city holds in-person and virtual events to seek public input on projects. View the city's social media channels and the Events Calendar on KnoxvilleTN.gov for upcoming events.

✔ Attend a City Council meeting

City Council examines issues and solicits public input to set city policies. Members of the public can sign up to speak to council at regular meetings. To sign up to offer public comments on any item on the agenda or during Public Forum held at the end of every regular meeting, you may contact the City Recorder's Office by emailing the City Recorder at [email protected] or by calling the office at 865-215-2075 during normal business hours. Sign-ups open after the agenda is released. The deadline to sign up to speak is at 4:00 p.m. the day of the meeting. Check out the City Council meeting schedule for upcoming meetings.

✔ Attend a Board or Commission meeting

Topic-specific boards or commissions explore issues, conduct community engagement and often provide guidance to City Council. Some also perform regulatory and oversight functions. View the public meeting schedule for upcoming meetings. Several board meetings are recorded by Knoxville Community Media.
