Meet Roger Fernandez, Recreation Supervisor for the City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation.

Roger’s impressive results are proof of his successful weight loss journey. He has lost approximately 60 pounds over the past year and reduced his waist circumference to 34 inches, a reduction of almost 8 inches. Additionally, Roger received an excellent report on his biometric screening, with all results in the normal ranges.
His success often prompts people to ask if he has used one of the injectable weight loss medications, referred to as GLP1s. However, Roger prefers to approach his weight loss journey with lifestyle strategies, rather than with medications that carry side effects.
Roger utilizes the services available to members at The Center. Working with Mary Rouleau, his registered dietitian nutritionist, as well as Alex Walton, his exercise physiologist, he sets small, achievable goals and over time has built a foundation of many healthy behaviors. These include healthy eating following a Mediterranean-style plan, preparing most meals at home, and being creative with recipes. Alex worked with Roger to develop a home exercise program (HEP) that includes cardio, strength, and mobility exercises. Roger has commented that he now has more energy, making job tasks such as loading the van for recreation events much easier.
Roger recognizes God’s hand in his successful weight loss journey and gives Him the glory for the determination and self-discipline that led to his accomplishments.
