Community members, first responders, and City leaders gathered in the ballroom of the Knoxville Coliseum for Knoxville Fire Department’s annual Firefighter Memorial Service.
This deeply moving tradition honors both the memory of retired firefighters we’ve lost over the past year and the legacy of the 24 KFD members who gave their lives in the line of duty.
This year’s service remembered eleven retired firefighters who passed away, their names read aloud in a powerful moment of reflection.
Mayor Indya Kincannon addressed the crowd, offering words of gratitude and respect:
“I could not be more proud of the Knoxville Fire Department.
But it’s important to remember these men were not just firefighters, they were fathers, brothers, spouses, friends, and neighbors.
They were part of the fabric of our community, and they are deeply missed.
To their families and fellow firefighters, our hearts are with you.”

Alongside the memorial, KFD on the Square invited the public to meet current firefighters, explore emergency vehicles, and learn more about fire safety while introducing young children to the heroes who keep our city safe.
KFD remains committed not just to emergency response, but also to public education and events like these remind us of the department’s ongoing dedication to both protecting and connecting with the communities they serve.
