What It's Like to Work as a Knoxville Lifeguard
Swim Test Overview
All participants must pass a Red Cross swim pre-test at the start of the course. Skills include:
• Swim 150 yards continuously
• Tread water 2 minutes using legs only
• Swim 50 additional yards
• Retrieve a weighted object from the pool bottom

Course Format
This course includes:
• 19-21 hours of in-person training
• 7-9 hours of online coursework
• Additional course details and preparation materials are sent after registration.

Students must attend all days and times.

• After certification, participants may apply to work at City of Knoxville pools
