Christmas at Chilhowee, Tour de Lights Changes for 2021

Posted: 12/10/2021
Christmas in the CityTwo popular holiday events will be held this weekend with some changes: Christmas at Chilhowee will include a drive-in movie, and the Tour de Lights bicycle ride will follow an updated route from the Old City to Market Square.

Christmas at Chilhowee, presented by Comcast, will be held on the Midway side of Chilhowee Park on Friday, Dec. 10. Starting at 5:30 p.m., attendees can get pictures with Santa Claus, enjoy hot chocolate and donuts courtesy of Krispy Kreme, watch model trains in action, and participate in activities organized by The Muse Knoxville and Friends of the Knox County Public Library. The screening of the “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey (2000, PG) will begin at 7 p.m.

The north side of Chilhowee Park is decorated for the holidays, including a large Christmas tree in the bandstand, and will be open for self-guided walking and driving tours until 10 p.m.

Admission is free, and the event will happen rain or shine.

Tour de Lights, a free, family-friendly holiday bicycle ride presented by Bike Walk Knoxville and Visit Knoxville, is set for Saturday, Dec. 11.

Riders will gather in the City of Knoxville parking lot at the corner of Patton Avenue and Willow Street in the Old City. The approximately five-mile ride begins at 5:30 p.m., and, depending on the number and speed of participants, takes about an hour to complete.

Tour de Lights is open to riders of all ages and abilities. It’s also fun to watch! The route winds through neighborhood streets so riders can enjoy decorated houses and neighbors can enjoy the decorated riders and bicycles.

This year’s route incorporates the Old City, Fourth and Gill, Old North Knoxville, N. Central Street and Broadway, Emory Place, Gay Street to Market Street and ending in Market Square. For a map of the route, visit bwknox.org/tdlroute.

Knoxville Police Department officers will manage street closures along the ride route and allow cars to cross the route between groups of Tour de Lights riders.

Tour de Lights will happen rain or shine. However, in the chance of severe weather, visit bwknox.org/tourdelights for updates and additional information.
