Mayor Visits Gym Jam

Posted: 04/13/2009
Mayor Bill Haslam cheered kids on at Cecil Webb Recreation Center as they competed in various athletic events at the City's third annual "Gym Jam."

The City Parks and Recreation Dept. puts on the Gym Jam as part of the After School Program to encourage children to exercise, stay fit, and enjoy healthy competition.

City recreation centers throughout Knoxville traveled to Cecil Webb Center on this Knox County in-service day to represent their center.

Competitions were held in an Olympic format and included suicide sprints, chin ups, basketball free-throws, dodge ball, and many other events.

The City After School Program is a free service provided at centers in all areas of Knoxville from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. on weekdays. The City also provides a Summer Playground Program, which will begin in June. The summer program is held 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday - Friday and is $20 for registration.
