Be a Part of the Fast 40 Dash

Posted: 05/29/2009
Interstate 40 in downtown Knoxville is reopening and as part of the celebration the Tennessee Department of Transportation is offering you a chance to run on the newly completed roadway before the official opening.

The Knoxville Track Club, TDOT and the City of Knoxville are sponsoring the first - and last - "Fast 40 Dash" a mile run and fun walk beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 11, on the just finished portion of I-40 in downtown.

Interstate 40 officially reopens the next day, June 12, which completes TDOT's ambitious SmartFix40 project.

The mile run and fun walk is open to all ages and is expected to draw about 1,000 participants. The race will be run in waves beginning with male runners 39-years old and younger at 7 p.m., followed by 39 and under women at 7:10 p.m. and then men and women runners in separate waves before concluding about 7:55 p.m. with the fun walk.

The course is certified. Whoever wins the race, as well as the people who finish first in the various age groups, will always hold the title because this is a one-time only event.

Pre-registration is currently underway and all runners and walkers must pick up their race packets at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. the night of the race. Participants will be bused from the Coliseum to the race site.

No one will be allowed on the course without a race bib.
