Driver Permit Process and Fees for
Taxi / Limo / Sedan / Shuttle  Drivers


PROCESS

STEP 1: Call the Inspections Unit and schedule an appointment 865- 215-7379.
  
STEP 2: Bring to the appointment:
A. A completed application (available at front counter at the KPD) 
B. A copy of your current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR-driving record) from the Tennessee Department of Safety (the MVR must have been obtained from the TN. Dept. of Safety within (5) five business days of your appointment). 
C. Your valid Tennessee Driver License with proper endorsement (F) or Class A or B commercial driver license.
D. Your Social Security Card
E. Bring the appropriate fees listed below

STEP 3: You may qualify for a temporary driver permit the same day

STEP 4: The Inspections Unit will call you when the results of the fingerprints have been received.
A. Another appointment will be scheduled to issue you a driver permit if you are eligible to receive one
B. Driver permits are valid for (1) one year from the date received and the entire process must be repeated annually


FEES YOU MUST PAY

Cash or Money Orders Only - No Checks Accepted 
                     
1. $35.15 fee for criminal conviction records investigation

2. $10.00 fee for application processing (applies to driver permit renewals only)

3. $20.00 fee if the driver permit has expired or obtaining a driver permit for the first time
