The Construction Appeals Board hears and decides appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of adopted codes.

This board was created from these original City boards:

• Building Board of Adjustments & Appeals
• Electrical Board of Examination, Review, Adjustments & Appeals
• Mechanical / Gas Board of Examination, Review, Adjustments & Appeals
• Plumbing Board of Examination, Review, Adjustments & Appeals


APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS

There are 9 members of this board, all appointed by the Mayor of Knoxville. The 9 members of this board include a consumer representative, a Fire Prevention representative, a state registered Architect, a state licensed General Contractor, a state licensed Mechanical Engineer, a licensed class 1 Gas/Mechanical Contractor, a Licensed Class 1 Master Plumber, a state licensed Electrical Engineer, and a licensed Electrical Contractor. Members serve a 5 year term and are limited to 2 consecutive terms, then a 1 year break.


MEETING INFORMATION

The Board meets on the third Friday of every month at 9:00 a.m. when an application has been submitted.

For an application, please contact Plans Review & Inspections at [email protected] or 865-215-4311 for information.  Application fees are $100 for 1 & 2 family dwellings and $200 for other structures. Application deadlines are NOON on Tuesday, 10 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
