The Animal Control Board has the responsibility to recommend goals
and objectives, qualification requirements, and specialized training
courses to the Animal Control Unit. The board issues permits and establishes
minimum standards for persons who operate quarters where any animals
are kept, maintained, exhibited or displayed.
APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS
The Animal Control Board has 7 members. There is one representative from the Knoxville Zoological Gardens, Knox County Health Department, Knoxville Veterinary Academy, Knox County Humane Society and Animal Shelter, Knoxville Police Department, University of Tennessee School of Veterinary Medicine and one member from the public at large. These members serve four-year terms and are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City Council.
MEETINGS SCHEDULE
Board meets quarterly on third Thursday in the months of Jan., April, July and October at 1:30 p.m. at the Knox County Health Department. More meetings may be scheduled as needed.
