New Greenway Map Available

Posted: 03/22/2006
A map that illustrates the 38 miles of greenways within the City of Knoxville is now available at various sites including local recreation centers, Knox County public libraries, the Knoxville Visitors Center and Ijams Nature Center.

Residents may also obtain a free copy by calling the City by dialing 311. Information about Knoxville's greenways is also available for viewing at the City's website at knoxvilletn.gov/greenways. The map is a definitive greenways guide, including distances, facilities, and other helpful information. Illustrations of Knox County and Farragut greenways are also included."Knoxville boasts greenways that show off the best parts of our city, including the waterfront, nature sanctuaries and our own neighborhood parks," Mayor Bill Haslam said. "I hope residents will use this map to explore the greenways our community has to offer."The map is a project of the Knox Greenway Coalition, the City of Knoxville and the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization.

Maps will also be available at the I Walk Month Main Event, which begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Market Square. I Walk is a month-long event that promotes walking and walkable places; residents are encouraged during April to walk for transportation and recreation to promote community, economic and environmental health. The I Walk Main Event is the concluding event and will feature a clinic taught by Olympic racewalker Mark Fenton; Mayors' Cup race and a walkability scavenger hunt around downtown.
