CORRIDOR L - SMOKY MOUNTAIN GREENWAY - VESTAL

Corridor Route Description

The Corridor L greenway corridor is approximately 2.60 miles in length and connects the existing Mary Vestal Greenway at the South Knoxville Community Center to the existing Charter Doyle Greenway and the Gary Underwood Greenway.

The Corridor L greenway trail begins at the existing Mary Vestal Greenway at the South Knoxville Community Center and proceeds approximately 0.10 mile as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail to the intersection of Martin Mill Pike and Ogle Avenue. From this point the Corridor L greenway trail proceeds approximately 0.36 miles as a 10-foot sidepath along the south side of Ogle Avenue to the intersection with Mayfield Avenue where it continues on the south side of Mayfield Avenue to a point where the KGIS mapping shows a former railroad easement turning to the south. The corridor proceeds as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail within the former railroad easement for approximately 1.38 miles passing through Charter Doyle Park until it intersects with Magazine Road. The corridor proceeds along the north side of Magazine Road as a 10-foot wide for approximately 0.24 miles. The corridor crosses Stone Road and continues along the east side of Magazine Road for approximately 190 feet as a 10-foot wide sidepath. The corridor turns onto private property and continues approximately 0.30 miles as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail until it intersects with Anna Road. The corridor parallels Anna Road as a 10-foot wide sidepath to the intersection of Anna Road and Magazine Road, a distance of approximately 200 feet. The corridor crosses Magazine Road and proceeds along Moore Road approximately 0.13 miles as a 10-foot wide off-street greenway trail to a point where it connects with the existing Gary Underwood Greenway.

Demolition in this corridor will include but not be limited to curb, curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, asphalt, and fencing removal at selected locations. The typical trail cross section shall be 2” asphalt over 6” base stone. Curb ramps and greenway trail crosswalk pavement markings are provided at all street crossings. Sitework will include curb and gutter, asphalt roadway and storm drainage improvements. A pedestrian tunnel/underpass at Avenue A is proposed. Two pedestrian bridges are proposed to span over wet weather conveyances that drain to Goose Creek.

Greenway Connectivity

Corridor L connects three greenway segments, Mary Vestal, Charter Doyle and Gary Underwood, for a total connected length of 4.20 miles.
