Daniel T. Brown was sworn in as the City of Knoxville's first African-American Mayor on Jan. 10, 2011. 

On Monday, January 10, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., City of Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam submitted his resignation as Mayor of Knoxville to become Governor of Tennessee. During a special called City Council meeting, Sixth District Councilman Daniel T. Brown was selected as the interim Mayor of Knoxville. 

He served as Mayor until Dec. 17, 2011.


BIOGRAPHY OF DANIEL T. BROWN

• Native Knoxvillian

• Graduate of Austin High School

• Graduate of Tennessee State University with a B. S. in History

• Retired from the U. S. Postal Service

• Honorable Discharge from the U. S. Army - Vietnam Veteran

• Member of Dandridge Ave. Neighborhood Association

• Member of NAACP

• Member of Beck Cultural Exchange Center, Inc.

• Member of First A. M. E. Zion Church

• Past Member Knox County Board of Zoning Appeals

• Served as the Councilman for the Sixth District
