Employee Honored for Actions to Prevent Injuries to Students and Adults

Posted: 05/31/2016
Mayor, Dagnan, ChiefKnoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch today named Vicki Dagnan the March Employee of the Month for the Knoxville Police Department.  Ms. Dagnan has been with the department since February 1995.

On Thursday, March 10, 2016, at approximately 9:30 a.m, a school bus from Green Magnet School that was carrying twenty-six (26) second graders and four (4) adults was involved in an accident in the Safety City parking lot.  The bus struck the front gate post and then turned around and hit the chain link fence before it finally stopped in the middle of the parking lot.  Vicki checked to make sure that the children and adults were not injured.  She then had them immediately go inside Safety City where they would be safe.  Vicki checked on the school bus driver and he appeared to be having a medical issue.  She made sure that an ambulance was called and then stood by to assist with all of the responding units.  The first responders removed the driver from the bus and transported him to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center where he was later admitted.

Chief Rausch said, “It was due to Vicki’s quick thinking and actions as a leader that resulted in no children or adults being hurt.  We thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty.”
