Race Along City's Greenways Oct. 10

Posted: 09/27/2010
The Knoxville Track Club and the City of Knoxville are partnering to present the latest edition of an autumn event that sends runners racing across the city's greenways from East Knoxville to West Knoxville.

The Pilot CrossKnox 10 Miler and 5K Fun Walk is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, October 10, beginning near the Alex Haley Statue in East Knoxville's Morningside Park and ending - for runners - just beyond Bearden Elementary School on the west side of town.

Walkers will also start in Morningside and will finish their trek near the Sunsphere in World's Fair Park.

This is the fourth running of the scenic race that features several city greenways and parks as it travels along the Tennessee River and through the woods bordering the neighborhoods along Sutherland Avenue.

But there is a twist this time.

This year's event has been lengthened to a 10 miler in celebration of running the event on 10-10-10. Previously the CrossKnox has been a 15k race - or 9.3 miles.

The Pilot CrossKnox 10 Miler and 5K Fun Walk are point-to-point events and runners and walkers will be transported back to the starting line at Morningside Park for the post race party after completing the courses.

Registration fee is $25 through October 1, 2010. Members of the Knoxville Track Club receive a $5 discount until that date. Registration fee for late and race day registration is $30 and no discounts apply.

Cost for the 5K Fun Walk is $20 through race day. Anyone choosing not to get a t-shirt can deduct $5 anytime. Race day registration is available and will open at 12:30 pm at Morningside Park on October 10 and will close at 1:45 pm. There is an optional packet pick-up and late registration on Friday, October 8, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Tyson Park.

The Knoxville Track Club is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization established in 1963 whose mission is to encourage lifelong physical well-being through running and walking. The KTC vision is healthy living, healthy community - one step at a time. The Knoxville Track Club has a year-round Youth Athletics program that offers a variety of events in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track to over 7000 youth. The Knoxville Track Club also hosts the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, Half-Marathon, Relay, 5K, and Kids Run.

The Cross Knox was established in 2007 to highlight the city's greenways and their connections which allow runners, walkers and bicyclists to travel across much of the city and access places like downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee.
