Henley Bridge Week 10 Progress

Posted: 03/11/2011
With ten weeks into the project, things are progressing on schedule.

On the north end of the bridge in the Henley/Hill Ave. intersection, utility work with paving is expected to be completed today. All that is left there is to relocate a fire hydrant which should take place later down the road.

On the south end in the Chapman/Blount intersection, all gas and water relocations with paving should be completed by next Friday, March 18th. I know that we have been in that location longer than anticipated and have caused undue inconveniences to the motoring public, but I ask that you be patient for one more week. The contractor has experienced difficulties that were not addressed in the contract plans.

Traffic counts at the various intersections on the detour and alternate routes are complete. Adjustments to the signalization are being made based on these counts and should be completed by Friday, March 18th.

Please check out our cameras on the website, www.tn.gov/henley and watch the contractor pinch the concrete away and place it on the barges below. In the next few weeks, the railing and all overhang material should be removed. Reconstruction on the south approach of the bridge is continuing and on schedule.

For those that are interested, there is a meeting at the Henley Community Center with Councilman Nick Pavlis on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. to follow up with issues of the last meeting concerning the South Knoxville businesses. Feel free to stop by.

If you have questions concerning the bridge, feel free to stop by the Henley Community Center or call 865-577-6988.To find out more about the project, detours, Henley Bridge history and to view the project cameras you can visit www.tn.gov/henley.
