Library to Host Table Readings of New Plays

Posted: 01/21/2009
New plays and new writers are the lifeblood of a strong and vibrant theater. Since 1998, Tennessee Stage Company has produced The New Play Festival as a way to spotlight and nurture new playwrights and plays. This year, Knox County Public Library is partnering with TSC for a series of table readings of the plays to be performed during the festival. Join us to hear some of Knoxville's finest actors perform the following plays:

Carry Me Back To West Virginia by Lawrence DuKore
Carry Me Back To West Virginia is a comedy set in a small town on the West Virginia/Kentucky border during the height of the Cold War. When the connecting bridge collapses the town is cut off and isolated. With no help forthcoming from Washington a few enterprising townsfolk look for help in a strange place - the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Saturday, January 24, 3 p.m. at Fountain City Branch Library
Saturday, January 31, 3 p.m. at Lawson McGhee Library, Arts @ The Library Room

G Wing By Keith Trawick
G Wing is a cops and robber comedy set in the psychiatric wing of a general hospital. It comes complete with true love, betrayal, mistaken identity and kidnapping. Just a usual night in the psych ward perhaps, but is anybody who they really say they are?

Tuesday, January 27, 6 p.m. at Farragut Branch Library
Sunday, February 1, 1:15 p.m. at Lawson McGhee Library, Arts @ The Library Room

The Marriage Bed by Nicholas Tasi
The Marriage Bed is a mobbed up comedy. Murder, extortion, racketeering, large amounts of money dropping in people's laps - all the things that make organized crime so goofy and lovable presented with a twist - our hero and heroine never actually get out of bed for the entire play!

Saturday, January 31, 1:15 p.m. at Lawson McGhee Library, Arts @ the Library Room

All performances are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Nelda Hill at 215-8729.
