Papermill Road Reopened Monday

Posted: 02/02/2005
Papermill Road between Kingston Pike and Westfield Road was reopened to traffic on Monday, Jan. 31st.

"The City of Knoxville and KUB coordinated their work schedules to improve storm-water drainage and replace utilities in this area and minimize the length of time to close the road," Mayor Bill Haslam said. "By working together, they actually completed the work a week ahead of schedule."

Some construction remains to be completed, but the road will remain open to traffic. Work includes some clean-up, installing curbs and final paving. All work should be completed in the spring.

The road has been closed since early November in order to replace corrugated metal pipes that run underneath the road with reinforced concrete pipes.

The City's cost for the project is about $900,000, which includes design, construction and engineering.
