Four Arrested Following Organized Crime Unit Operation in Marble City Area
Four individuals were arrested last Thursday, August 10, following a KPD Organized Crime Unit operation that stemmed in part from numerous complaints of suspected drug sales in the Marble City area.

After investigation by the Organized Crime Unit, Asa Hobbs, 60 of Knoxville, was charged with sale and delivery of schedule one drugs with additional charges pending, while Joseph Simpson, 63 of Knoxville, was charged with sale and delivery of schedule two drugs. Both Hobbs and Simpson, who reside at homes on Dance Avenue, were located on Thursday and taken into custody.

A search of Hobbs’ residence resulted in the seizure of a handgun, heroin, meth and over 100 controlled pills. A search of Simpson’s residence result in the discovery of opioid prescription pills that he is suspected of selling.

David Haynes, 67 of Knoxville, and Rachel Newman, 34 of Knoxville, were also arrested during the operation following a traffic stop on Cate Avenue. Haynes was found to have outstanding warrants for violation of probation on a previous reckless endangerment charge and failure to appear on a DUI charge. Newman had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation on a previous domestic assault charge.

Additional Organized Crime Unit investigations into drug sales in the Marble City area are ongoing.

The KPD appreciates the members of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, DEA and ATF who assisted in Thursday's operation or the investigation that preceded it.
