The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Wednesday afternoon on Henley Street.
At just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, KPD officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Henley Street at Main Street. The male driver of an Infiniti sedan was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female passenger of a Jeep SUV was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on the investigation conducted at the scene, it is believed that the following occurred. University of Tennessee Police Department officers witnessed the Infiniti sedan attempt a U-turn on the Henley Street bridge, where it was involved in a minor crash with a KAT bus. The Infiniti then left the scene of that crash traveling northbound on Henley Street. The Infiniti then crashed into a Jeep SUV that was turning left onto Main Street from southbound Henley Street.
The crash remains under active investigation by KPD crash reconstruction investigators. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time.
