At approximately 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a crash with injuries on I-40 East at McMillan Road. Based on the preliminary investigation at the scene, a vehicle was travelling on I-40 West when it lost controlled, crossed on to I-40 East and struck a vehicle travelling eastbound. The two occupants of the westbound vehicle were transported to an area hospital, where one was pronounced deceased and the other remains in critical condition. The occupant of the eastbound vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
Crash Reconstruction investigators remain on scene and their investigation is continuing at this time. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
