New Crosswalk Canopy Taking Shape
Workers this week continue installing a new crosswalk canopy on the Clinch Avenue Viaduct.

Crews this week are continuing to work on the installation of a new crosswalk canopy on the Clinch Avenue Viaduct. The canopy will help pedestrians get to the Convention Center and Sunsphere from the Tennessean and the World's Fair Holiday Inn, and then back again!

The canopy is part of a $2.7 million infrastructure upgrade that will improve the experience of pedestrians approaching World’s Fair Park and the Knoxville Convention Center from two sides. Also happening: A rejuvenation of the Henley Street pedestrian bridge at Clinch Avenue (adding a frosted glass roof, replacing the metal cage fencing with perforated metal panels, and adding decorative lighting) and new Streetscape amenities to the Clinch Avenue bridge over World’s Fair Park (new 5-foot-wide bicycle lanes, wider sidewalks, planter boxes and benches).

Most of the work will be finished by the end of August. The lighting on the Henley Street pedestrian bridge and upgrades to the elevator tower are slated to be completed about a month later.
