A Summer Evening in James Ag...
A Summer Evening in James Agee Park
More than 100 people turned out on a steamy first evening of summer to celebrate James Agee's famous essay "Knoxville: Summer of 1915." The ice cream social June 21 at James Agee Park in Fort Sanders was cosponsored by the Knox County Public Library and the City of Knoxville. It included music from Nancy Brennan Strange, a short talk on Agee and life in Knoxville in 1915 by local writer and historian Jack Neely, and a reading of the complete Agee piece by poet and musician R.B. Morris. (You can read the Agee text
here
. And you can watch a video montage of the event, with an excerpt from the reading, at the
News Sentinel website
.)
More events are being planned for later this summer. Keep an eye out for them!
