City Launches New Website at Knoxvilletn.gov

Welcome to the new City of Knoxville website!

This is the first update to the City’s website since 2004. The site features a clean, photo-centric home page and user-friendly navigation with drop-down menus and pop-up boxes.

“We wanted to make it both attractive to look at and easy to use,” said Mayor Madeline Rogero. “A city website has to serve many purposes. Our site draws more than one million users a year. It is a primary way for local residents and businesses to interact with local government. It is also literally a face to the world – it is one of the first things anyone sees if they are searching online for information about Knoxville.”

The new site comes with a new address, changing from the existing cityofknoxville.org. Unlike the .org domain, which is available to nonprofit organizations, the .gov domain can be used only by governmental entities. The old website will remain active at cityofknoxville.org for a limited time, to ease the transition, but a banner will direct visitors to the new website. After a short time, the old address will simply redirect to the new site.

The website redesign was a team effort that included local programmers and designers from Avenue Factory and The Village Marketing Group. The content management system was designed and customized by CivicLive, a company that specializes in government websites. A team of City staff from the Communications and Information Systems departments oversaw the project.

Just because the site is live does not mean it is finished.

“A good website is never really done,” said Jesse Fox Mayshark, Communications Director for the City. “It will always be a work in progress, as we add new content and look for new and better ways to communicate with the public. We will be polishing and tweaking things on the new site for some time to come. We definitely encourage public feedback – we want this website to work for everybody.”
