Apply or Re-enroll for Health Insurance Through the Affordable Care Act, Nov. 1 Through Dec. 15

Enroll or re-enroll for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, starting Nov. 1. Need help comparing your plan options? A dozen free local events are scheduled, with counselors on hand to answer your questions.

Need health insurance? The Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare – is still available.

To get coverage for 2018, you must apply between Nov. 1 and Dec. 15. If you have already been insured through the Affordable Care Act, you will need to re-enroll, because the insurance providers have changed, which affects doctor networks, costs and types of insurance plans available.

Coverage is more affordable than you might think. According to Get America Covered, 8 in 10 people were eligible for financial help last year, lowering premiums to between $50 and $100 per month. In 2016, nearly 1 in 3 consumers who used the Affordable Care Act Marketplace had a monthly premium that was less than $50.

The level of assistance depends on household earnings, but a family of four with a household income up to $98,000 still qualifies for financial assistance.

If you need help comparing plans and options, there will be 12 free events in Knoxville where you can get help from trained counselors. The first Enrollment Fair is on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Overcoming Believers Church, 211 Harriet Tubman St., from 1 to 7 p.m.

Through Dec. 15, enrollment events are also scheduled at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church on Dandridge Avenue; Cherokee Health Systems on Western Avenue; and the South Knox Community Center on Maryville Pike.

For more information about times and locations of these enrollment fairs, visit www.knoxvilletn.gov/ACA, or call the City’s helpline at 311.

You can make appointments locally and throughout Tennessee by calling 1-844-644-5443 and giving them your ZIP code. If the line is busy, then you will be called back within 24 hours.
