Everly Family Visits Everly Brothers Park
The City's new
Everly Brothers Park
got a visit this weekend from some special guests: close family members of Don and Phil Everly. Patti Everly, Phil Everly's widow, was in town along with one of Don Everly's daughters, Venetia, and two of Don's grandchildren, Stirling and Arabella.

The family met with 2nd District City Councilman Duane Grieve and representatives from the Bearden Council and Mayor Rogero's office. They took a driving tour of local Everly history, including West High School, where Principal Katharine Banner showed them the hallways Don and Phil walked as students (Don Everly graduated from West in the Class of 1955); the house the Everly family lived in on Scenic Drive; and the former site of the WROL radio studio on Gay Street, where Cas Walker famously fired the brothers for playing "that jumpin' up 'n' down music."
Most of the Everly family now lives in Nashville, with contingents in California and Atlanta. Since Phil Everly's death from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) last year, Patti has dedicated herself to raising awareness of the disease and working toward a cure. She has established the
Phil Everly Memorial Fund
through the COPD Foundation.
