Everly Brothers Park Dedication This Friday -- With Ice Cream!

You can pay tribute to part of Knoxville's musical history this Friday, and get some free ice cream to boot!

Mayor Madeline Rogero, Councilman Duane Grieve, other members of City Council, members of the Bearden Council and representatives of the Legacy Parks Foundation will celebrate the establishment of Everly Brothers Park on Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Kingston Pike and Forest Park Boulevard. Parking is available at Earth Fare and the back lot of Western Plaza. 

To make it a real party, Bearden Council is providing free ice cream for the event.

City Council voted last month to name the small park in honor of Phil and Don Everly, who lived in Knoxville in the early 1950s while attending West High School. They went on to become internationally famous as rock ‘n’ roll pioneers, with their harmonies on hit songs like “Bye Bye Love” inspiring the Beatles and many other musicians. 

The East Tennessee Community Design Center has created a concept plan for the park (above), and Bearden Council is leading efforts to raise funds to complete the landscaping and features, including benches, bicycle racks, an artistic centerpiece and memorial plaques.
