Stroll the 'New' Market Square Walking Path; Check Out the 103-Year-Old Brick Pavers
Check out the new Market Square walking path, beneath the six beloved sawtooth oaks!
This south end of the heavily-traveled Square gets a lot of foot traffic, and the old flagstone walkway was beginning to show its age, the surface becoming rough and uneven.
But... Did you know? Many of the "new" red brick pavers used in the Market Square walkway are actually 103 years old. They were part of the original Jackson Avenue ramps at Gay Street.
When the structurally deficient ramps were replaced a few years ago, many of the old brick pavers were incorporated into the new ramps, but some of the historic bricks were salvaged and showcased here, in the heart of downtown.

F L Lay Masonry installed the walkway, and City horticulture crews year-round work hard to keep Market Square and the landscaping looking its very best.
